My Most Memorable Christmas

I've had many Christmas celebrations at this point. I wasn't a journal writer in my past years so most of those Christmas details have gone. But, there is one Christmas that I will NEVER forget. In the year 2013, a boy band called One Direction was on top of the world. Our twins LOVED them. Actually that isn't a strong enough word for their following. One day in about September, the twins told us that all they wanted for Christmas was to see them in concert. They said that knowing it wouldn't happen. It was just a spur of the moment shout out. Well, Trent and I had a little discussion and thought about it for quite awhile. We decided to look into it. One Direction was going to tour the USA in the fall of 2014. Once tickets went on sale we discovered the easiest concert for the twins to go to would be in Pasadena, California. The tickets were available. and I didn't think it mattered to them where they were sitting, so less expensive ones were an option (I won't say cheap because they weren't). We purchased three tickets - one for each twin and a friend. But, the concert wouldn't be until September 14, 2014. It would be almost a full year away.

I anxiously had to watch the mail and get it before the twins came home from school. For a full week I ran home (literally) each lunchtime to check the mail for those tickets. My friends at school were just as invested in the tickets as I was. When they came, several of us cried a little because we were so excited. I have never had more difficulty holding onto a secret in my life. The tickets arrived in early November. We had to keep that excitement inside for nearly two months. KILLER!!!

When Christmas morning came, we insisted that the twins open their gifts at the same time. All it was was a little square box with a pull-up lid. At the same time they opened the lid and stared at the ticket taped to the bottom of the box. They looked at each other and immediately burst into tears and sobbing - the kind of sobbing when you can't make correcct words come out. They tried to tell us what was in the box, but we couldn't understand a single word spoken. We were laughing so hard. Poor McKenna didn't know anything about it and couldn't figure out what was going on. Thank goodness we have that moment videoed. It was awesome! I don't know if we can ever top that gift.

In September2014, Trent, the twins, their friend Brianne, and I flew to Southern California. The concert was all they hoped for and more. They were exhausted. It was probably everything Trent and I had hoped they would experience, too. Definitely my most memorable Christmas experience.
