My Grandma Erikson died when I was fourteen years old. My heart was broken and it was very difficult for me to handle. We didn't talk about feelings much in my family, so I learned to deal with them on my own. I cried nearly every night for a very long time. I missed her so much. I still do. Sometimes as my kids were growing up I'd say, "My grandma would have loved to hear you say that." She would have. If I could have a conversation with any loved one that has passed on, it would definitely be her.
There are some questions I would definitely ask her:
1. How did you remain positive, even when things were difficult?
2. Why did you add ketchup to roast beef gravy?
3. Were you as happy to see us come as you seemed?
4. You were as afraid of cats as I am of snakes? Yet, cats were always on the farm? How did you even go outside?
5. Would you share your testimony of Jesus Christ with me?
6. Only a few of your siblings remained active in the church? What did you do to help them?
7. What was your favorite book to read? (She was part of a ladies book club for years.)
8. You traveled to many places. Where was your favorite place to travel?
9. Tell me all the things about life after death! (That's not a question, but I'd still want to know.)
10. Are you proud of me?
