Our family has had the chance to do several family trips. We've tried to make it a priority to build memories away from home. We traveled to visit grandparents in Utah many times - playing at Lagoon, in Salt Lake City, swimming at Cherry Hill, and exploring historical places. We have traveled through Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, and California. We traveled to Chicago once when the kids were young. Trent served his mission there and has shared his love with the area with us. We all love Chicago, too.
In 2016, the Chicago Cubs defied tradition and went to the World Series. We were so excited. On a whim, we bought tickets to fly out while the team played at home. It was so spontaneous. Within a couple days, we found ourselves in the Salt Lake Airport with hundreds of other Cubs fans heading to Chicago. How did we know they were Cubs fans? They were ALL wearing team apparel and they sang the Chicago Cubs song. I remember that song from watching Cubs games on WGN when I was little. We laughed so much.
Upon arrival the entire airplane erupted into the "Go Cubs Go" song. It was so much fun. The kids were old enough that we didn't have to worry about them getting lost. We visited many of our favorite spots - The Bean, Crown Fountain, Sears Tower, Lincoln Park Zoo, Giordano's Pizza, Shake Shack, Art Institute of Chicago, and of course, Wrigley Field. We didn't go into a game because the seats were too expensive. But we enjoyed a few innings with millions of peole in the streets surrounding the stadium. It was madness!
We crammed so much into three days. It is truly one of my very favorite trips. Sure, there was some stress and a few hiccups, but I hardly remember because it was just so fun to be with our grown-up kids. I look at pictures often and get the giggles.
