What is the Most Spontaneous Thing I have Ever Done?

(This was mentioned in a previous post about favorite family activity. It was so nice, it has to be mentioned twice - more detail this time.)

I am most comfortable when I am in the midst of a set out plan or routine. School vacations and summer breaks are so difficult for me. I don't like the lack of a daily plan. It causes me great anxiety. So, to be spontaneous is hard. Yet, some of my favorite memories have been outside the usual and planned activities.

By far the most spontaneous and crazy thing I have ever done happened in the fall of 2016. A miracle of miracles was occurring at that period of time. It had been hoped for and watched for many years. A curse had been given and a people were desperately hoping the hex could be lifted. In 2016 it looked as if it may happen. What was this greatly anticipated event? A winning Chicago Cubs season ending with a trip to the World Series! Our family was just as excited as a Chicago native. At the end of the National League championship game, the Cubs had emerged victorious. Trent and I looked at each other and said, "We should go!"

Immediately, before we could change our minds, we put the plan in action. Miracle #2? Airline tickets were so inexpensive, relatively speaking. They were purchased. Miracle #3? All six schedules were open and very little change had to be made for this crazy plan to work. Within three days we were on our way.

We drove to the Salt Lake airport where we met Kenna, who had come from Logan by bus. It was perfect! The terminal was alive with Cubs crazed fans. We were all (not kidding) wearing Cubs apparel. Right before we boarded, the entire terminal burst out in the Cubs fight song. I hadn't heard that song since WGN was on our cable tv and played every game. We heard it plenty that weekend. Upon landing at O'hare, the entire airplane burst out again in song. Of course we joined in!

We didn't have tickets to the game because they were sssoooooooooo expensive. But, we stood outside Wrigley Field with tens of thousands of other people cheering and crowding around windows where tiny tv screens projected the play by play of what was happening inside those hallowed-baseball walls. It was an electric feeling. The Cubs lost that game, but they did go on to lift the hex and win the 2016 World Series. We think it was a fantastic blessing to have been part of the fun.

This is definitely my favorite and by far the most crazy spontaneous thing I have ever done. It became one of our most treasured family memories.
