This is a good question for right now. These past years we have had three kids living at our house. For so many years, friends and family had warned us about our kids moving out all at once and the two of us being lonely. I truly expected that since the kids were so close together in age. Well, that never happened. Was I disappointed in that? NO! In fact, I actually cherish most of those times. Together we have built much better relationships. We have also identified and addressed some mental health issues in each of them. Thank goodness they were here. We all needed each other. It was much more difficult on them than it was on Trent and me.
At the beginning of January, Collin moved back to Price, UT to continue his education. Katy moved back to Rexburg for school at BYUI. That left Adri here all alone. Bless her heart. It was a very lonely time for her. I find Trent and I to be quite entertaining and fun to be around. Poor Adri didn't really see it. That may have been a good thing. It caused her to think about moving out. A room opened up in a townhouse where a friend lived. Adri decided it was a good plan. So, on February 1st we moved Adri to her room. It is a lovely townhouse. Trent and I drove home as empty nesters.
So here we are. Empty nesters. A new phase of life. It may or may not continue. But Trent and I are enjoying it. We weren't sure what to do. We spent several days watching TV on our phones. We went back to work in the evenings. We tried to make meals for two. The house stayed cleaner. There were less dishes and less shoes in the entryway. But watching TV gets old. So, we signed up for Weight Watchers to help us focus on our health. We went to the store to buy a Scrabble game because that seems like the type of thing empty nesters do. Didn't find one and bought a different more modern word game. We've played it each night. I'm sure more games will come along. Maybe I'll even learn to play Cribbage.
This transition is going well. And yes I am ready. A new phase in life. A new time to enjoy.
